The King of Pop Art

Tom Pergola

Long before the art, Tom ran the business side of it. He spent eight years as general manager of Martin Lawrence Limited Editions, helping grow it into the largest fine art gallery chain in the country.

Along the way he produced more than 30 professional videos profiling the era's most popular artists—films that became known as some of the most informative in the industry and helped move millions of dollars of fine art around the world.

He also discovered, managed and represented a roster of artists, including performance painter Denny Dent in the early days of his career.

Assemblage Plastique

In the 90's Tom picked up where Warhol and Oldenberg left off in the 60's: turning the everyday objects of popular culture into permanent art. His answer was Assemblage Plastique—three-dimensional wall sculptures built from the products, packaging and icons people live with every day. The form was unlike anything else in the fine art world at the time, and it made his name. Each piece freezes a slice of popular culture in place, forever.

Exhibitions & commissions

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art invited Tom to join a select group of artists at its gala exhibition, auction and dinner, Appetite for Art—An Evening of Art, Sex, Food and Videotape.

Brands came calling too: Corona Beer and Kellogg's commissioned him to create thousands of limited edition pieces of their products.

His work has shown at fine art trade shows across the US—New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and beyond—and at gallery exhibitions and shows nationwide, including Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.
